Heywood papers, 1872-1967 (bulk 1901-1950).

Family correspondence, diaries, and manuscripts relating to Mormon history, family history, cattle ranching, polygamy, settlement in Bush Valley (later known as Alpine, Ariz.), and pioneer Mormon families of Arizona. Correspondents include Prime and Evans Coleman, friends of the Heywood family. One diary from Neal's father, Joseph Neal Heywood, describes ranching and freighting activities in Arizona and Utah and the family's move to Arizona. Neal's diaries relate his missionary experiences and his activities as a doctor in Navajo County. Manuscripts are reminiscences about polygamists in Utah and Arizona, the history of Alpine, and collected experiences of friends and family. A sketch by Alma Frederickson recalls Pancho Villa's raid on Columbus, N.M. in 1916. Financial records include account ledgers for medical services listing patient name, treatment, and costs.
